PD = Partial Dose

• Can my patients who have high blood pressure or patients with an increased heart rate take Liquibid PD-R?

I have numerous doctors who give it to patients with high blood pressure because Phenylephrine is alpha-selectivity and lack of effect on beta-adrenocoeptors results in outstanding reduction in nasal congestion without the increase in heart rate and blood pressure associated with Pseudoephedrine.

• Does Liquibid PD-R cause rebound congestion?

Phenylephrine is unlikely to cause rebound congestion due to its direct action on alpha adrenoceptors as opposed to production of norepinephrine.

• Why is Liquibid PD-R immediate release instead of sustained?

Liquibid PD-R is immediate release because of the patent Mucinex has on Guaifenesin. Mucinex has a patent on any extended release Guaifenesin (over 400mg).
